NEIGHBORHOODS
There are many historical riverfront neighborhoods in Philadelphia – commonly known as the River Wards – that had been cutoff from the source of their existence with the construction of the I-95 transportation corridor in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Among those that will be reconnected to the river with the construction of the North Delaware Riverfront Greenway are:
Port Richmond
Bridesburg
Wissinoming
Tacony
Holmesburg
Torresdale
These communities will include the primary design and construction projects for the greenway trail. Eventually we will build through Port Richmond at the southern end of the trail and Torresdale at the northernmost point of the river in Philadelphia.
