Yes, Kayaking In The Delaware River IS A Thing

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, that really IS a group of 20 kayakers in the Delaware River! This past Saturday, the Delaware River City Corporation, in partnership with Hidden River Outfitters and Ellis Coffee, held their first ever “Boats, Beans & Beers” event on a pristine and calm Delaware River.

Twenty kayakers launched from Northeast Philadelphia’s Pleasant Hill Park and paddled south to peaceful Pennypack on the Delaware. There, participants indulged in delicious cold-brew provided by Ellis Coffee, aptly prepared for the 80 degree sun-soaked day.

“Kayaking on the Delaware is a very attainable experience for Philadelphia residents, so we are excited to host this event to open everyone’s eyes to the beautiful river opportunities in Philadelphia’s shared backyard” said Delaware River City Corporation Program Manager, Stephanie Bennett. “We are hoping to hold a series of kayaking events this coming spring, as we notice more and more people choosing recreation activities on and along the Delaware River.”

Participants chatted over coffee, and of course, a few soft pretzels, before jumping back into the river for the easy journey back to Pleasant Hill Park. The group then enjoyed a few beers at local staple, Dagwoods, to celebrate a successful adventure on the river.

The mixed-aged, mixed ability group all reported having a great experience of tranquility while still getting in a great workout. Watch out Schuylkill River, people are discovering the Delaware.
