PENNYPACK EXTENSION
Construction began in late summer of 2008 on Phase 1 of this project - a ½-mile extension of the existing ½-mile trail in Pennypack on the Delaware Park. From its present terminus at the northern end of the park, the asphalt trail extension passes through a natural meadow, past a restored wetland to the mouth of the Pennypack Creek. A more passive wood-chip path along the river’s edge is planned which will be completed in the spring of 2009.
Phase 2 of the project will go into final design in the summer of 2008, with construction slated to begin in 2009. This phase includes the design of a bridge across the Pennypack Creek and the continuation of the trail from the creek to Pleasant Hill Park at Linden Avenue and the Delaware River.
