Holmesburg

Holmesburg is often associated with William Penn’s surveyor, Thomas Holme, but the neighborhood is named after John Holme, an early immigrant. Holme and other immigrants established lumber yards near the confluence of Pennypack Creek and the Delaware, while others became large landowners. Many of these large estates were sold to housing developers during real estate booms. Today, Holmesburg is a quick train ride from Center City and has very active community associations that are guiding its future.
