PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Delaware River City Corporation (DRCC) today announced that Robert A. Borski, Jr., former Representative to the U.S. House, will receive the organization’s first ever Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Bob’s exemplary leadership and extraordinary dedication have directly led to our successes along the riverfront,” said Tom Branigan, Executive Director of DRCC. “We are grateful for his immeasurable contributions to revitalizing the Delaware waterfront in Northeast Philadelphia and look forward to celebrating his work.”
Mr. Borski represented Philadelphia’s 3rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 2003. During his tenure, he became the second-ranking Democrat on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Mr. Borski also represented the 175th district in the state legislature of Pennsylvania before serving in Congress.
Since leaving Washington, Mr. Borski has focused much of his efforts on the restoration and revitalization of riverfront communities in Northeast Philadelphia. He has helped to facilitate several major projects, including the development of Lardner’s Point Park, the Port Richmond Trail, and the groundbreaking on the Delaware Avenue extension, among others.
“A riverfront greenway for the citizens of Northeast Philadelphia has been a longtime vision of mine for more than two decades and is the reason I founded DRCC when I left elected office,” said Mr. Borski. “To be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for working on something that is so close to my heart is humbling and an award for which I am very grateful.”
In addition to Mr. Borski, Mariann Porter Dempsey will receive the Outstanding Service Award and the Tacony Town Watch will be honored as the Community Organization of the Year.
The awards will be presented at DRCC’s 4th annual Spring Fling on Thursday, May 15th at the Quaker City Yacht Club from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. The event will feature a cocktail reception and live music. Tickets go on sale April 1st.. For more information, please visit www.drcc-phila.org.
